I’ve created this blog as a place to share information I find interesting relating to the fields of finance and economics. I have an advanced degree in economics, my previous education is in economics and I have a bit of real world experience in finance and tech entrepreneurship. Writing is a hobby and this blog is a place to share my interests.
My goals for this project are to keep my writing skills sharp, develop my voice as a writer and digest business news in a more thoughtful way than I would if I were reading but not sharing or commenting on it.
Longer term personal/career goals include obtaining the CFA Charter (almost there), working abroad for a year (preferably in Asia) and writing a book or directing a documentary. Film is another hobby. I would have loved to have made a documentary about the mortgage meltdown but now isn’t a good time for me to do that. I’d also like to teach part-time, preferably college level economics or finance, but I’d consider high school math or economics.
This is my third blog; I would deem the first two successful, albeit defunct. One was personal and helped me in college in several ways. The other was an industry blog and became notable in that industry. As for Econ 247, I won’t be offended if no one ever reads a word.
I’m a prolific reader and I expect my sources to include The New York Times, Bloomberg, TechCrunch, The Economist, The WSJ, material from the content aggregator Digg, HBS case studies and non-fiction books from the business/economics section.
I’m not trying to fill a particular information gap in the business press but do want to add value by bringing together information from a variety of sources to create well argued positions. Your comments are appreciated.
